Foster a Dog
Foster Parents are the lifeblood of any rescue group. For every animal fostered we can save another animal. It saves us from paying boarding bills to save a dog fromthat would otherwise be euthanized.
WHAT IS A FOSTER PARENT?
A foster parent provides a temporary home for a rescued animal. Normally the animal is kept in your care until a forever home is found. This could take from one week to several months.
ARE THERE EXPENSES?
We provide for all medical expenses, including monthly heartworm preventative and flea/tick preventative. We can loan you a crate if needed. You provide the food, toys and love. And your foster dog will love you back! We can also furnish food if you need us to. If you have a medical emergency with your foster dog, please contact your foster liason for information on the nearest emergency clinic and we will direct you there and provide them with credit card payment. If it is not a medical emergency we will make an appointment for you at one of our regular rescue vets.
HOW DO I BECOME A FOSTER PARENT?
Fill out the foster application on this page, save with your name and e-mail to metroplexmutts@tx.rr.com. This will help us choose the right foster dog for you based on whether or not you have kids, other dogs or cats, etc. You can specify a weight limit for the dog you want to foster.
WHAT ELSE DO I NEED TO DO?
We ask that you bring your foster dog to at least one adoption event per month so that they will have the best chance of getting adopted. It's easier to fall in love in person than it is with a picture!
WHAT HAPPENS IF I CAN NO LONGER FOSTER?
We ask that you give us as much notice as possible so that we can find another placement, unless it is an emergency of course. If you need to travel we will put your foster dog in a doggie day care or boarding facility at our expense.
FOSTERING IS A REWARDING EXPERIENCE! You have saved a life! You are giving your foster dog the second chance that they deserve.
